Tai Shan the panda and ZooLights

With some family in the city for the day we decided to go visit one of DC’s most famous residents and one of the rarest animals in the world. Unfortunately Tai Shan, the 4 year old Panda Cub, will soon be heading back to the home of his ancestors. More on Tai Shan and some pictures of the Zoo Lights inside.

It's colder than it looks outside

So today was the first snow of the year for the DC area. Some more photos of our day out in the snow inside.

Let there be light.

The National Christmas Tree lighting tonight by President Obama and his family has been dominating the news around here. Check out how I was able to crash the concert and ceremony inside.

The house of an influential president.

The Thanksgiving holiday presented the opportunity to finally take some time off from work for a long 4 day weekend. Claudia and I decided to take a road trip to the house of one of the most influential figures in US history.

More after the jump.

a building mostly known as the Zei Building

Work is still really busy, with the deadline quickly approaching I haven't been able to get back to the blog. But since we are talking about work, here is a little info and a photo on the place I've been spending a lot of my time at.

About a year an a half ago the office moved from our location in Georgetown to a building mostly known as the Zei Building. The building is located in the middle of a block accessible only thru 3 alleys, one which is Zei alley.

Originally an electric utility substation, the building was widely know around DC as the Zei Club for many years. After the Zei club closed the building sat empty for a few years. Today its the place were I've been spending most of my time.

Some street photography as filler during a busy month

Really busy at work trying to get drawings out for the project by the end of the month. So with time to post hard to find, I figured I would post some photos. Earlier in the year I took a photography class, at the time we had to select a theme. My theme was street photography, and I have just sort of continued it. So some photos I've taken lately from around the city after the jump.

“hot girl on girl action for Halloween”

Claudia and I decided catch some hot girl on girl action for Halloween. Girl on girl sports action that is.... ;) ….more on one of DC's new/old under ground sports after the jump.

“Renaissance is under way”

I’m not one to post about this a lot, but the project I’ve been managing has finally gone public, and I’m very excited and proud of it. Here is a link to the first article about it:

“The People’s Marathon”

Yesterday was the 34th annual Marine Corps Marathon, here in DC. We decided to head down to the course and take a look, cheer on some runners.

More on the race after the jump.

A Cathedral find

In a city that boasts enormous and magnificent religious structures like the National Cathedral and the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, there is one gem of a cathedral in the middle of a neighborhood that goes mostly unnoticed.

Solar Decathlon 2009 @ National Mall

Every 2 years college and university teams from not only the US, but around the world design, build and operate energy efficient (and solar powered) houses. Those houses are currently displayed, competing and open for tour on the National Mall. Claudia and I attended two years ago, and we have headed out there a couple of times this year to check it out.

Hit the jump to see some photos and info.

Pack the car and leave this town….

Well, not really leave the town, as Claudia and I were discussing on the way back. While Luray Caverns are about 90 minutes away from DC, there is really no other major city closer.

For our anniversary we decided to pack up the car and the pets and head out to one of the sites I have wanted to go to since I first moved here. Maybe I’m biased since I have not really seen caverns like this before, but it was breath taking. Hit the jump to see some photos and read more about the trip.

A Rose for my Wife on our anniversary

A Rose….window… anyway. It’s our anniversary today, 4 years. So here is a picture I took from one of our favorite places in DC, the National Cathedral.

Plans for the weekend are a road trip thru Virginia, to a cabin near Laurie Caverns. So there will be some info on that on later posts, and if my phone works well maybe some updates during the trip.

Persistence? Determination? Crazy? Maybe just a clear purpose….Part I

Most people are passionate about something; some are so passionate, they feel the need to protest about it. We get a lot of people in DC that fit in the ladder of those categories. Now, I’m not overly political, or religious, but I am passionate about my own things. So when I see people protesting, showing such passion about whatever they might believe, I’m usually interested enough to take a look. Living in DC, and working only blocks from the White House gives me plenty of chance to see protesters. You see, protesters are a staple of DC just like the monuments, statues, and politicians. This post is about one such protester, that unlike many others is a part of the city.

Nature get away near DC....Rock Creek Regional Park

Claudia and I decided to find a place to go grill and get a little bit of nature. Surprisingly, there are a lot more parks in the DC area then one would think. We decide to venture a bit further, to a park neither of us had been to before.

New Orleans work trip #...I don’t know…let’s say 10

Going to New Orleans always makes me a bit sad. I’ve been exclusively working on this project (more on it maybe on another post, as it hasn’t “gone public” yet) in New Orleans for basically the entire year (but been on it for 4 years) that has required me to travel there several times. Every time I am reminded of the first time I went, about 2 years before Hurricane Katrina, and how it isn’t the same and may never be again.

Is that Simon Bolivar?

About a year ago, I began to notice just how many statues there are in DC, hundreds . I even begun to joke with Claudia and anyone that would ask, who is that a statue of? “That’s Simon Bolivar”. Pretty soon every statue was Simon Bolivar.

First Entry - We begin in DC

Decided to start a blog a few days ago, I had been thinking about it for a bit. Ever since I moved from South Florida, almost 7 years ago, to DC I have seen and experienced “The City” like I never realized I would. I want this to be a place were I can write down the experiences, locations, events and general everyday life from living(/walking) in a city.

My “laboratory”, currently Washington DC. My “Lab” partners, my wife Claudia, my faithful companion/cat Newton, and Newton's dog Bailey. Claudia is a local to the area and could tell you how to get around better then I ever could. Newton made the trip from South Florida with me, but he enjoys walking the city as much as I do. Bailey is the new member of the family, and yes he is Newton's dog.

Not sure how it will go yet, but hopefully everyone that reads will enjoy the journey of “walking” the city.
