a building mostly known as the Zei Building

Work is still really busy, with the deadline quickly approaching I haven't been able to get back to the blog. But since we are talking about work, here is a little info and a photo on the place I've been spending a lot of my time at.

About a year an a half ago the office moved from our location in Georgetown to a building mostly known as the Zei Building. The building is located in the middle of a block accessible only thru 3 alleys, one which is Zei alley.

Originally an electric utility substation, the building was widely know around DC as the Zei Club for many years. After the Zei club closed the building sat empty for a few years. Today its the place were I've been spending most of my time.

Really busy at work trying to get drawings out for the project by the end of the month. So with time to post hard to find, I figured I would post some photos. Earlier in the year I took a photography class, at the time we had to select a theme. My theme was street photography, and I have just sort of continued it. So some photos I've taken lately from around the city after the jump.

“The People’s Marathon”

Yesterday was the 34th annual Marine Corps Marathon, here in DC. We decided to head down to the course and take a look, cheer on some runners.

A Cathedral find

In a city that boasts enormous and magnificent religious structures like the National Cathedral and the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, there is one gem of a cathedral in the middle of a neighborhood that goes mostly unnoticed.

Solar Decathlon 2009 @ National Mall

Every 2 years college and university teams from not only the US, but around the world design, build and operate energy efficient (and solar powered) houses. Those houses are currently displayed, competing and open for tour on the National Mall. Claudia and I attended two years ago, and we have headed out there a couple of times this year to check it out.

Pack the car and leave this town….

Well, not really leave the town, as Claudia and I were discussing on the way back. While Luray Caverns are about 90 minutes away from DC, there is really no other major city closer.

For our anniversary we decided to pack up the car and the pets and head out to one of the sites I have wanted to go to since I first moved here. Maybe I’m biased since I have not really seen caverns like this before, but it was breath taking. Hit the jump to see some photos and read more about the trip.

A Rose….window… anyway. It’s our anniversary today, 4 years. So here is a picture I took from one of our favorite places in DC, the National Cathedral.

Plans for the weekend are a road trip thru Virginia, to a cabin near Laurie Caverns. So there will be some info on that on later posts, and if my phone works well maybe some updates during the trip.

Persistence? Determination? Crazy? Maybe just a clear purpose….Part I

Most people are passionate about something; some are so passionate, they feel the need to protest about it. We get a lot of people in DC that fit in the ladder of those categories. Now, I’m not overly political, or religious, but I am passionate about my own things. So when I see people protesting, showing such passion about whatever they might believe, I’m usually interested enough to take a look. Living in DC, and working only blocks from the White House gives me plenty of chance to see protesters. You see, protesters are a staple of DC just like the monuments, statues, and politicians. This post is about one such protester, that unlike many others is a part of the city.
